How it works

How it Works

ToolToYou is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace that allows users to make or save money on any tool. Set up shop, in your local community, with ToolToYou or Rent from your neighbors garage.

ToolToYou provides three different features: list, rent, or request. (All are explained in detail below.)



Listing

Our platform provides users with the capability to make money on any tool. Have questions about you or your tools being protected? Click here to learn more.


In order to lend your tools, you must have a PayPal business account. A PayPal account is free to create.

Steps:

  1. Click "Post a New Listing".
  2. Fill out the tool/equipment's information.
  3. Save your listing.
  4. If you have not already, in order to receive payments, you must connect your PayPal account through your payment settings.
  5. Once someone requests to rent your tool, accept or deny the order.
  6. When order is accepted, your PayPal account will receive the payment.
  7. Communicate with the renter (using our messaging feature) to schedule a drop off and pick up date/location.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a detailed description with all listings
  • If desired, the optional Rental Agreement can be filled out by both parties (lender and renter) at the time of meeting. The agreement would be used in the case of an arisen conflict. By doing this, protection over your tools is greater.
  • Connect your PayPal account in order to receive payments.
    • (Located in settings > payments)
  • In the case of a rental transaction, communicate with renters through our messaging feature.

Renting

ToolToYou allows users to complete their project, while saving money on the tools required. Have questions about your protection? Click here to learn more.

Steps:

  1. Click the tool you desire.
  2. Choose the start (“from”) and end (“to”) dates then click “Rent”.
  3. Accept the terms and agreement by checking the box.
  4. Click “proceed to payment”.
  5. Choose your preferred payment method (Paypal, Visa, Amex, etc.) and follow the instructions to pay.
  6. Once the order is accepted and the payment is complete, communicate with the lender (using our messaging feature) to schedule a drop off and pick up date/location that is most convenient to both parties.

Remember: If the order is not accepted by the lister, you will automatically receive a refund on your payment.

Responsibilities:

  • Be thorough with your profile. Listers want their tools to be in good hands. A descriptive profile, with a picture will help build trust in our community.
  • Be ready to sign the Rental Agreement which MAY be provided by the lister/lender at pickup.
  • In the case of a rental transaction, communicate with renters through our messaging feature.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions! Whether it is contacting us at [email protected] or listers about their tools/equipment, make sure to ask anything. Our website offers a unique messaging system which allows you to communicate with users, regarding any listings.

Requesting

At times, users cannot find the tools that they are looking for in their convenient location. Therefore, we provide a feature that allows members to request the tool that they need.

Steps:

  1. Click “Post New Listing” on the top right.
  2. Select your desired location.
  3. Select “Requesting”.
  4. Fill out the information for the tool you desire.
  5. Once the form is completed, click “Save Listing”.
  6. Wait for a local to provide you with your desired tool.

We Protect You

Don't be afraid to lend or rent a tool. We have got you covered!

Lender's Protection:

Make sure to read the terms of use for the most accurate and detailed information regarding protection yet the following are some of the lister's protection:

  • In the event of loss or damage of any kind to the Equipment, the renter shall pay you (the owner) the replacement cost of the Equipment.
  • The equipment/tool owner (Lender) are held harmless from and against any claim, demand, cause of action, loss or liability for any property damage or personal injury arising from Renter's use of Equipment by any cause.
  • In order to have full protection over your tools, make sure to print a copy of the Rental Agreement to be filled at the meeting/exchange between both parties (lender/borrower). The agreement can be used in the case of an arisen conflict.

Renter's Protection:

Make sure to read the terms of use for the most information regarding protection yet the following are some of the renter's (borrower's) protection:

  • We are connected with PayPal which provides buyer's protection. Make sure to read the full buyer's protection for the most accurate and detailed information. Below are some cases of protection:
    • You were charged for something you didn't purchase.

Safe Payment

ToolToYou is connected with PayPal to enable users to have a secure way of using our marketplace. Personal information of both renters and listers is kept private.

  • As a lister, you will need a PayPal business account.
  • As a renter, you have the ability of using multiple payment methods.
